Fishing ReportDate: November 27, 2002 Title: North Currents and Cold Fronts Increase Sailfishing Anglers are having their ups and downs this past week during their offshore fishing outings. It’s on again off again fishing. The biggest problem has been lack of current and dirty water. When the current has been strong to the north we have been having clean water and typically good fishing. The sailfish have been biting in the areas of north Key Largo, off the whistle buoy, off Triumph reef, and off of the Monument buoy off Key Biscayne. The snooters seem to have favored the 120 to 140 depths of water. A few dolphin have started to show up this week. Occasionally they have been on the larger side of twenty pounds. The mahi mahi have been in close cruising the deeper edge of the reef in search of flying fish. Off Ocean Reef Yacht Club, off Key Largo, charter captains have been finding a few Blackfin Tuna mixed in with the sailfish and mahi mahi. Off Miami, when the conditions have been right its sailfish, mahi mahi and kingfish. Baitfishing has been great with threadfins, pilchards, and blue runners around most of the offshore markers. Any periods of good strong north winds after a cold front should increase the offshore activity. If it’s too rough to venture offshore don’t overlook the patch reefs for excellent bottom action. There will be mutton snapper, lots of small grouper, a few hogfish, and cero mackerel around the patches. Back to Main Fishing Report Page
